Bhubaneswar, 02 August (H.S.): Even as Odisha recovers from the recent floods, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another spell of heavy rainfall across the state over the next three days, prompting authorities to remain on alert.
The Regional Meteorological Centre on Sunday issued Yellow Warnings for most districts, cautioning residents and local administrations about the likelihood of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
According to the IMD forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected till August 4, with as many as 23 districts likely to receive significant showers. However, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Subarnapur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Jharsuguda have been excluded from the alert for the day.
On August 4, a Yellow Alert has been issued for 24 districts, with rainfall ranging between 7 cm and 11 cm expected in several areas. While rainfall intensity may slightly decrease on August 5, 21 districts will continue to remain under a Yellow Alert.
All coastal districts have been placed under alert for the next three days, as the prevailing weather system continues to influence rainfall activity in the region.
In addition to heavy rainfall, the IMD has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph.
