Kolkata, 02 August (H.S.) : Railway authorities, assisted by the police, carried out an eviction drive on Saturday night to remove alleged encroachments from railway land adjoining the platform area of Nungi railway station on the Budge Budge–Sealdah section.

According to local sources, shopkeepers had been served notices through public announcements around 10 to 15 days ago, directing them to vacate the railway land within the stipulated time.

As the shops were reportedly not removed within the deadline, officials launched the demolition drive with bulldozers. The operation was conducted jointly by personnel from Maheshtala Police Station and the Railway Protection Force (RPF), along with railway authorities.

Officials claimed that approximately 100 to 150 unauthorised shops were demolished during the eviction drive. No immediate reports of any untoward incident during the operation were received.
