Amritsar, 02 August (H.S.): Lopoke police have arrested a suspected drug smuggler and recovered 3 kg and 29 grams of heroin from his possession as part of an ongoing anti-narcotics campaign.

The accused has been identified as Harpreet Singh, a resident of Nurpur village in Lopoke tehsil of Amritsar district. A case has been registered against him under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.

According to police, a team was patrolling the main GT Road and checking suspicious persons when it received information that Harpreet Singh was allegedly in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers. He was also suspected of being linked to heroin consignments sent through drones and other means in the Attari border area.

During the operation, police recovered the heroin, a motorcycle, a mobile phone and ₹1,000 in cash from the accused.

Police are now investigating his alleged cross-border links, the number of consignments he may have handled and the identities of other people involved in the network. Raids are being conducted to arrest additional suspects.
