Guwahati, 02 August (HS): Although floodwaters are receding across Assam, the situation remains critical in parts of Upper Assam, with 178,837 people still affected across seven districts, according to the latest Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report.

The worst-hit districts continue to be Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat, where normal life has yet to return. Rivers Dikhow in Sivasagar and Dhansiri at Numaligarh are still flowing above the danger level, keeping residents on alert.

ASDMA said 349 villages in 20 revenue circles remain affected, while 15,060 hectares of agricultural land are still submerged. The flood death toll remains at 82, with no fresh fatalities reported on Saturday.

The state government is operating 44 relief camps and 17 relief distribution centres, sheltering 11,489 people, while another 5,569 people are receiving relief outside camps.

The flood has also affected 6,765 animals, and over 1,500 livestock have reportedly been washed away in Sivasagar district. Significant damage has been reported to houses, roads, bridges and other infrastructure, particularly in Sivasagar.

Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by the SDRF, NDRF, Army, Air Force, Police, Fire & Emergency Services and local administration. On Saturday, 79 medical teams and three boats were deployed in flood-hit areas, while food grains, pulses, edible oil and cattle feed continued to be distributed among affected families. The state government is also preparing measures to support farmers with alternative cropping options following extensive crop damage.----------
