New Delhi, 19 August (H.S.): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday said former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) minister Satyendar Jain had committed a scam in the Delhi Jal Board and was jailed in connection with the case. She said all investigative agencies were carrying out their respective responsibilities.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at the Delhi University Sports Complex, Gupta said the Delhi government had tabled 19 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports in the Assembly, which highlighted alleged irregularities and scams involving the previous AAP government and its then chief, Arvind Kejriwal. She said action was being taken on all the CAG reports.

Gupta said Jain had been involved in a scam in the Delhi Jal Board and had consequently been jailed. She added that the process of taking action was underway and that the investigating agencies were doing their work.

Delhi Jal Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, in a post on X, said that power could delay accountability but could not eliminate it. He said Jain’s arrest had followed alleged irregularities in the tendering process for Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) under the Delhi Jal Board. “The chair may change, but the files remain the same,” he said.

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, also in a post on X, alleged that the Kejriwal-led AAP had a track record of scams across government departments. Referring to Jain’s arrest in the STP case, Sirsa alleged that large-scale misappropriation of funds had taken place and claimed that the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) investigation had uncovered a money trail.

Sirsa further alleged that funds meant for cleaning the Yamuna were also misused, accusing the previous government of spending money on advertisements and the redevelopment and amenities associated with the “Sheesh Mahal”. He said the alleged wrongdoings of Kejriwal and the AAP had reached a point where accountability could no longer be avoided.
