Wanted in Murder, Extortion and Explosives Cases; Two Linked to Alleged Ludhiana Hand Grenade Plot
Chandigarh, 19 August (H.S.): Punjab Police has taken major action against gangsters hiding abroad by securing the deportation of three wanted suspects linked to the Davinder Bambiha gang from Malaysia. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on wednesday said that three accused were brought back to India with the assistance of central agencies. They have been identified as Jaspreet Singh alias Jas Behbal, Ajay Singh and Pawandeep Singh.
According to the DGP, all three suspects were wanted in several cases involving murder, extortion and explosives. They have also been accused of being involved in an alleged conspiracy to carry out a hand grenade blast in Ludhiana. During the investigation, the police also found alleged links of these cases with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
DGP Gaurav Yadav said in a post on social media platform X that the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) of the Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence Wing, with assistance from central agencies, secured the deportation of the three suspects from Malaysia.
He described the operation as a major breakthrough by the Punjab Police against transnational organised crime. The three suspects were arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi after their arrival from Malaysia. They are being brought to Punjab for further investigation.
According to the police, the names of Ajay Singh and Pawandeep Singh surfaced during the investigation into an alleged hand grenade attack conspiracy in Ludhiana. The probe had revealed the involvement of suspects operating from abroad. Following this, the Punjab Police, in coordination with central agencies, expedited the process of bringing the two accused back to India.
The Punjab Police is now expected to question all three suspects to gather information about their criminal network, associates operating from abroad and their alleged involvement in other criminal activities in Punjab.
