New Delhi, 19 August (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called upon people to embrace compassion and devote themselves to the welfare of others, saying that the true purpose of human life can be fulfilled by helping fellow beings to the fullest extent of one's abilities.

As part of his regular morning post on his X handle, Prime Minister Modi shared a Subhashitam, a Sanskrit verse, and urged people to pursue acts of benevolence and welfare.

The Sanskrit verse reads: “Etavajjanmasaphalyam dehinamiha dehishu. Pranairarthairya vacha shreya evacharetsada.” The verse is taken from the Shrimad Bhagavata Mahapurana (10.22.35) and conveys the essence of what makes human life truly meaningful.

Explaining the verse, the Prime Minister's X post stated that the ultimate fulfilment of human birth lies in consistently undertaking benevolent and welfare-oriented actions for other living beings through one's physical abilities, wealth, intellect and speech.

The message emphasises the importance of using whatever resources and abilities one possesses for the benefit of others. It presents selfless service and concern for fellow beings as essential values that can give deeper purpose and meaning to human life.
