Kamrup (Assam), 19 August (HS): A transgender person was allegedly brutally murdered near Rangia Railway Station in Assam’s Kamrup district, police said on Wednesday.

According to police, the victim, identified as Asma, was living in a rented house near the railway station and was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon. She succumbed to her injuries.

Police said Asma was reportedly close to a youth identified as Sonababu Ali. Investigators suspect his involvement in the murder. Following the incident, police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.

A case has been registered, and police have launched an investigation. Sonababu Ali is reportedly absconding following the incident.----------
