

Jalandhar, 19 August (H.S.): The Division No. 7 police in Jalandhar have arrested an alleged drug smuggler and recovered 60 grams of heroin, ₹2,500 in suspected drug money, two illegal country-made pistols and three live cartridges from his possession.The accused has been identified as Raja, son of Mohammad Nusrat, a resident of Vehra Sohal Khan, Sudama Vihar, Jalandhar. According to the police, he is already facing six criminal cases, including those related to the NDPS Act, robbery and assault.The action was carried out on the directions of Police Commissioner Jalandhar Satinder Singh (IPS), under the supervision of ADCP City-2 Madhvi Sharma and ACP Model Town Manmohan Singh (PPS). The police team was led by Inspector Ravinder Kumar, SHO of Division No. 7 police station.According to the police, a police party led by ASI Satinder Kumar was conducting patrolling and checking of suspicious persons and vehicles in the area. During the checking, a young man was spotted walking towards the police party from the Jamsher Road side. On seeing the police, he allegedly tried to flee, but the police chased and apprehended him.During his search, the police allegedly recovered 60 grams of heroin, ₹2,500 in drug money and a .315-bore country-made pistol.A case was registered at Division No. 7 police station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and Arms Act, and FIR No. 198 was registered in connection with the case.The accused was subsequently produced before a court and taken on police remand. During interrogation, he allegedly disclosed that he had concealed another .32-bore country-made pistol near Army Enclave in the Subhanpur (Subhana) area. Acting on his disclosure, the police recovered the second pistol along with three live cartridges from the indicated location.Police officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the illegal weapons and the intended recipients of the heroin consignment. Police are also probing the accused’s links with other members of the drug and illegal arms network.
