Mumbai, 19 August (H.S.): Actress Isha Koppikar shared a video on social media describing herself as a proud “andhbhakt”. However, she clarified that her devotion is not directed towards any political party or leader, but towards the country and its progress. Actress and Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut also endorsed Koppikar’s views, sharing her post and saying that she too identifies with such a form of patriotism.
In her video, Koppikar sought to distinguish between love for the country and political support. She said that loving one’s nation does not mean citizens cannot question their leaders. According to her, contributing to the country’s progress is the responsibility of every citizen, and raising questions on important issues is also part of that responsibility. She urged people to place the country above political parties and individual leaders and play their part in taking the nation forward.
Ranaut, meanwhile, backed Koppikar’s views and also referred to her own experiences of social and public activism. She mentioned speaking out on various social issues, including protests following the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Ranaut said she was proud to be a “bhakt” of her country and its people.
The statements by both actresses emphasised patriotism as a commitment to the nation and its citizens rather than allegiance to any particular political party or leader.
