
Bhubaneswar, 19 August (H.S.): Former Lanjigarh MLA Sibaji Majhi passed away at his native village Danarguda in the Bijepur area late Tuesday night while undergoing treatment for chest pain. His demise has plunged Kalahandi into mourning.
Majhi entered electoral politics and became the first MLA of the newly created Lanjigarh Assembly constituency, representing the seat from 2009 to 2014.
During his tenure, he worked for the development of the tribal-dominated and remote areas of Lanjigarh and Thuamul Rampur, with a focus on local development and community welfare.
Following the formation of the Special Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Council in Kalahandi district, Majhi became its first chairman. He subsequently undertook several initiatives aimed at advancing the development and welfare of tribal and Dalit communities across the district.
His death has been widely mourned across Kalahandi. Leaders from various political parties, public representatives and social workers expressed grief over his demise and paid tribute to the former legislator, remembering his contributions to the region and its people.
