New Delhi, 19 August (H.S.): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has caught Sandeep, Deputy Controller of Accounts serving as an Independent Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh.

According to the CBI, the accused had initially demanded Rs 15 lakh to expedite the processing of a file concerning the renewal of a private company's contract. Following negotiations, he agreed to accept Rs 10 lakh.

The investigating agency said it registered a case against the accused Deputy Controller of Accounts, Sandeep (ICAS: 2020), on Tuesday based on a complaint. He was serving as an Independent Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in New Delhi.

The complaint alleged that a file related to the renewal of a private company's contract was pending with the accused official and that he had demanded a bribe to process it on priority.

The CBI laid a trap on Tuesday and caught the accused allegedly accepting Rs 10 lakh through his wife. The agency subsequently took the accused into custody.

The CBI said further investigation into the matter is underway.
