
Guwahati, 19 August (HS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh, has welcomed the recent people-oriented decisions of the Assam Cabinet under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying the measures would accelerate the state’s development while safeguarding the interests of youth, students, workers, entrepreneurs, farmers and the general public.
In a press statement issued from BJP headquarters, Vajpayee Bhawan, BJP Assam Pradesh Media Panelist Tridib Moran said the Cabinet decisions reflected the government’s development-oriented approach and would strengthen public welfare and administrative efficiency.
The party particularly welcomed the approval for formulating the Assam Private Coaching Institutions (Regulation and Protection of Students’ Mental Health) Rules, 2026. It said the proposed regulatory framework would help address challenges faced by students, protect their mental health and safety, ensure equal opportunities and promote a healthier environment in coaching institutions.
The BJP also welcomed the decision to establish a Department of Youth Empowerment and Development, describing it as a significant step towards making young people key drivers of Assam’s development. The department is expected to create avenues for employment, career guidance, entrepreneurship, leadership development and promotion of young talent.
The party said the move to digitise dairy cooperative societies would improve transparency and efficiency while making registration easier through an online portal, thereby strengthening the rural economy.
The renaming of the “Mini Secretariat, Barak Valley” as “Assam Secretariat, Barak Valley, Silchar” was also welcomed as a reflection of the government’s commitment to strengthening administration in the Barak Valley.
The BJP further welcomed the approval of the Child Protection Policy, 2026, along with measures to strengthen implementation of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and relevant rules, saying the steps reaffirm the government’s commitment to protecting children’s rights, safety and welfare.
The approval of the Assam Industrial Relations Rules, 2026 and Assam Social Security Rules, 2026 was described as an important move towards making the state’s industrial and labour sectors more modern, transparent, efficient and worker-centric.
In the environmental sector, the party welcomed approval of the Assam Hydrocarbon Absorption, Production and Industrial Environmental Development Policy, 2026, saying it reflected the government’s emphasis on environmental protection and sustainable development.
The transfer of land and other approvals for construction of the permanent campus of IIM Guwahati was also welcomed. The BJP said the project would strengthen higher-education infrastructure and help establish Assam as an important educational and knowledge hub for the Northeast.
The party also highlighted the operationalisation of the new sub-districts of Kamalpur, Barhampur, Rangapani, Chichiborgoan, Chabua-Lahowal, Khumtai, Katigora and Barkhola, saying the move would bring administration closer to the people and make civic services more accessible, faster and more effective.
Moran said the Assam government under Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was continuing its journey of all-round development guided by the principles of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas.”
He congratulated the Chief Minister and the Assam government on the Cabinet decisions and expressed confidence that the initiatives would contribute towards building a stronger, self-reliant, modern and developed Assam.----------
