Guwahati, 19 August (HS): Floodwaters continue to affect parts of Assam, with 23,876 people across 115 villages in five districts still impacted, according to the latest data released by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

All major rivers are currently flowing below the danger level. The flood-affected districts are Golaghat, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Nagaon and Karbi Anglong. A total of 14 revenue circles remain affected, while 3,206 hectares of agricultural land are still submerged.

The flood death toll in the state has reached 106. The worst-affected districts this year include Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat.

The government is operating eight relief camps and two relief distribution centres. While 315 people are taking shelter in the relief camps, 491 non-camp residents are receiving relief supplies.

A total of 14,645 animals have also been affected, including 6,908 large animals, 4,145 small animals and 3,592 poultry birds. Ten medical teams have been deployed in the affected areas to provide healthcare services.

Relief materials, including rice, pulses, salt, mustard oil and wheat bran for livestock, are being distributed among affected people. Police and administrative teams continue to remain engaged in relief and rescue operations.

Floods have also caused extensive damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure. The state government is conducting regular reviews to assess the damage and expedite restoration work.----------
