Hooghly, 19 August (H.S.): The flood situation in Khanakul under the Arambagh subdivision of Hooghly has been worsening amid several days of continuous rainfall and the release of water from reservoirs. On Wednesday, a crucial portion of a bridge connecting Natipur and Ganeshpur collapsed, reportedly due to excessive water pressure.

According to local sources, the water level in the area had been steadily rising due to continuous rainfall. The release of additional water from reservoirs further increased the flow of rivers and canals. The strong current and pressure of the water are believed to have caused a vital section of the bridge to give way.

The collapse has disrupted direct connectivity between Natipur and Ganeshpur, causing significant inconvenience to local residents and daily commuters. Concerns have also increased over movement for emergency requirements amid the worsening flood situation.

The collapse of the bridge has added to the concerns of residents already facing the threat of flooding. Local people have urged the administration to undertake repairs at the earliest and restore normal connectivity between the two areas.

The situation remains a matter of concern as water levels continue to rise in several parts of the Arambagh subdivision.
