
Hooghly, 19 August (H.S.): A daring theft at Ghoshpur Union Netaji Vidyapith has raised serious concerns over the security arrangements at the educational institution. Teachers, staff members, students and parents were left shocked following the incident.
According to school sources, the lock of the headmaster’s room was found cut open. It is initially suspected that a gas cutter or a similar tool may have been used to break the lock. The intruders allegedly cut the chain securing the main office, entered the premises and ransacked several cupboards.
Signs of forced entry were also found on teachers’ personal lockers in the staff room. Several important school documents and files were found scattered inside the premises.
According to preliminary information, around Rs 10-12 lakh kept in the school’s cooperative, money related to student registrations, as well as cash and other belongings kept in teachers’ personal lockers, were allegedly stolen. However, the exact extent of the financial loss has not yet been ascertained. The actual amount is expected to become clear after completion of the investigation.
The incident has raised questions over the security arrangements at the educational institution, particularly as the thieves allegedly broke locks and chains to gain access to important documents, students’ funds and personal belongings of teachers.
Following the incident, an investigation has reportedly been initiated by the authorities. The school management has demanded that those involved in the theft be identified at the earliest, legal action be taken against them, and the stolen money and belongings be recovered.
The theft at the reputed Ghoshpur Union Netaji Vidyapith has caused concern in the locality. Residents and members of the school community have called for stronger security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
