New Delhi, 18 August (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday morning, as is his customary practice, shared a well-known Sanskrit shloka (subhashitam), emphasising that everyone should always live with self-respect and dignity. He said true courage, valour and strength of character lie in doing so. The Prime Minister stressed that one should never compromise on one’s principles under any circumstances.
“उद्यच्छेदेव न नमेदुद्यमो ह्येव पौरुषम्। अप्यपर्वणि भज्येत न नमत्वेव कस्यचित्॥”
The famous Sanskrit verse is taken from the Udyoga Parva of the Mahabharata and was shared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his X handle on Tuesday.
The verse conveys the message that a person should always live with self-respect, courage and dignity. True strength and valour lie in refusing to compromise with one’s principles and values, regardless of the circumstances, and remaining steadfast in one’s ideals with truth, patience and self-respect.
