New Delhi, 18 August (H.S.): Global markets are showing signs of weakness on Tuesday, with US equities closing lower in the previous session, while Dow Jones futures are also trading on a subdued note. European markets likewise remained under selling pressure during the previous session, while most Asian markets are witnessing weakness today.

Rising US Treasury yields, amid continued tensions between the United States and Iran and concerns over inflation, kept Wall Street indices under pressure in the previous session. The S&P 500 closed 0.52 per cent lower at 7,745.06 points. The Nasdaq also declined 0.32 per cent to end the previous session at 26,644.91 points. Meanwhile, Dow Jones futures were trading 0.09 per cent lower at 53,410.11 points.

European markets also remained under sustained selling pressure in the previous session. The FTSE index closed 0.28 per cent lower at 10,720.30 points, while the CAC index ended 0.67 per cent down at 8,579.60 points. The DAX index declined 101.70 points, or 0.39 per cent, to close at 26,338.61 points.

Asian markets are broadly witnessing selling pressure on Tuesday. Of the nine major Asian markets, eight indices are trading in the red, while only one is holding gains.

The Jakarta Composite Index of the Indonesia Stock Exchange was the only major Asian index trading in positive territory, rising 75.32 points, or 1.18 per cent, to 6,477.21 points.

On the other hand, GIFT Nifty was trading 130.50 points, or 0.54 per cent, lower at 24,244.50 points. The Hang Seng Index declined 182.23 points, or 0.72 per cent, to 25,271 points.

The Nikkei Index witnessed a sharp decline, falling 1,295.25 points, or 1.87 per cent, to 67,925 points.

The Straits Times Index was also trading significantly lower, declining 1.21 per cent to 5,698.91 points. The Taiwan Weighted Index fell 463.98 points, or 1.01 per cent, to 45,393.29 points.

Meanwhile, the KOSPI Index was down 0.58 per cent at 6,937.21 points, the Shanghai Composite Index declined 0.39 per cent to 3,966.99 points, and the SET Composite Index was trading 0.09 per cent lower at 1,625.04 points.
