New Delhi, 17 August (H.S.): The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), led by its national president Vinod Jakhar, staged a protest outside the National Testing Agency (NTA) office on Monday against alleged irregularities in the UGC-NET June 2026 examination.
Thousands of NSUI workers and UGC-NET candidates participated in the protest. Several NSUI workers were detained by the police during the demonstration.
Addressing the protesters, NSUI national president Vinod Jakhar demanded the dissolution of the NTA and the immediate resignation of its chairperson. He alleged that the repeated failures of the examination system reflected political interference and the government’s role in undermining the credibility of academic institutions.
Jakhar said the protest was organised following the NTA’s decision to conduct re-examinations for the English, Commerce and Sociology papers. An inquiry had identified serious shortcomings, including factual, typographical, translation and grammatical errors, as well as a significant number of repeated questions that had appeared in earlier examinations.
Vinod Jakhar said students should not be made to pay the price for the NTA’s failures. He reiterated the demand for the agency’s dissolution and the immediate resignation of its chairperson.
He said the agitation would continue until the NTA was abolished and justice was delivered to the students.
