New Delhi, 15 August (H.S.): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin on Saturday paid tribute to former party president Kushabhau Thakre on his birth anniversary, recalling his immense contribution to the organisation and describing him as one of its principal architects. Nabin also remembered Thakre’s life of simplicity, discipline and selfless service.

In a post on X, Nitin Nabin said Kushabhau Thakre had made an unparalleled contribution to strengthening the organisation from the days of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh to the formation and growth of the BJP. He said Thakre dedicated his entire life to organisational work and national service.

“Thakre ji’s life remains a source of inspiration for every party worker. His unwavering commitment to the organisation, affection towards workers and spirit of service to the nation will continue to inspire workers to remain steadfast on the path of duty,” Nabin said.

According to the BJP, Thakre was appointed national secretary of the party when the BJP was founded in 1980. In the subsequent years, he held several key responsibilities, including that of national general secretary and other important organisational positions.

Thakre was elected BJP national president on April 14, 1998, and remained in the post until August 2000. During his tenure as party president, the 1999 Lok Sabha elections were held, in which the BJP emerged as the single largest party, paving the way for the formation of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
