Kolkata, 14 August (H.S.) : On the same day that the body of an on-duty nurse was recovered from a washroom at NRS Medical College and Hospital, a similar incident was reported at Kolkata Medical College and Hospital, where a woman health worker allegedly attempted suicide by swallowing a blade on Thursday night.

According to hospital sources, the health worker, identified as Mumtaz Begum, was employed on a contractual basis and was posted at the SSB Building of the hospital.

Sources said she got into an argument with colleagues residing in the staff quarters located opposite the building. During the altercation, she allegedly swallowed a blade.

She was rescued and taken to the hospital’s emergency department at around 10 pm. Her condition is currently reported to be stable.

Hospital authorities said they are investigating the circumstances that led the health worker to take the extreme step. The exact reason behind the incident is yet to be established.
