Varanasi, 14 Aug (HS): Remember the suffering of those

who lost their lives and displaced families during the partition of the country

in 1947. Remembering this makes our souls tremble, Swatantra Dev Singh,

the Uttar Pradesh government's Water Power Minister, said in Varanasi on

Friday.

Swatantra Dev Singh, who participated in a silent vigil in

Varanasi on the occasion of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, told reporters

that those who owned palaces at the time of the India-Pakistan partition became

refugees within a short time. Hindus were subjected to severe atrocities. After

independence, Congress's actions ensured that Hindus who came to India from

Pakistan were forced to wander from door to door, begging for shelter.
