New Delhi, 14 August (H.S.): A special programme was organised at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, where Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Delhi Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra paid tribute to the struggles, courage and sacrifices of those who suffered during the Partition. The programme revisited memories of the pain, displacement and separation associated with the Partition of India in 1947.

Titled “Partition Horrors – Remembrance Day”, the special programme brought together music, theatre and video to portray the experiences of the Partition era. The event was held late Thursday evening.

Kapil Mishra said the presentation through music, theatre and video was an effort to bring to the present generation the human stories of history that reveal the pain and struggles concealed behind the tragedy of Partition.

Mishra said that the “horrors of Partition” had been suppressed and efforts had been made to erase them from public memory for years. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country had ensured that the pain, sacrifices and lessons of 1947 were never forgotten.

He said Partition Horrors Remembrance Day was not merely an occasion to pay tribute to the millions who suffered during the tragedy, but also an opportunity to reaffirm the resolve to ensure that future generations learn from history.

Mishra said that when a society forgets its history, sacrifices and the lessons derived from them, its future is built on a fragile foundation. He said that, in keeping with the vision of a developed India by 2047, the country must once again pledge that forces and mindsets capable of undermining India's unity, integrity and social harmony would never be allowed to take root again.

During the programme, Sonam Kalra and her team presented a special musical performance titled “Stories of Separation”. The presentation artistically portrayed stories of separation, struggle and memories associated with the Partition of 1947.

Kapil Mishra expressed his gratitude to the Union Ministry of Culture and the artists for their contribution to the programme.
