
New Delhi, 14 August (H.S.): Global markets are providing mixed signals on Friday. US markets ended the previous session on a positive note, while Dow Jones futures were also trading with modest gains. In contrast, European markets remained under pressure during the previous session. Asian markets were witnessing mixed trading on Friday.
US equities remained upbeat in the previous session, driven by strong buying in technology stocks. The S&P 500 rose 0.65 per cent to close at 7,798.99 points. Similarly, the Nasdaq gained 214.54 points, or 0.81 per cent, to end the session at 26,803.03 points. Dow Jones futures were currently trading 0.07 per cent higher at 53,878.09 points.
In contrast to the US market, European equities faced sustained selling pressure during the previous session. The FTSE index declined 60.48 points, or 0.56 per cent, to close at 10,772.67 points. The CAC index fell 0.28 per cent to end the session at 8,650.56 points, while the DAX declined 0.12 per cent to close at 26,299.74 points.
Asian markets were trading on a mixed note on Friday. Of the nine major Asian markets tracked, five benchmark indices were trading in positive territory, while four were in the red.
Gift Nifty declined 0.26 per cent to 24,397 points. The Shanghai Composite also slipped 0.21 per cent to 3,918.65 points. The Hang Seng witnessed a sharper decline, falling 237.51 points, or 0.94 per cent, to 25,159 points. The Jakarta Composite was marginally lower by 0.02 per cent at 6,286.63 points.
On the other hand, the Nikkei index was trading 368.41 points, or 0.54 per cent, higher at 68,677 points. The SET Composite gained 0.29 per cent to reach 1,619.11 points.
South Korea's KOSPI was also witnessing strong gains, rising 107.52 points, or 1.58 per cent, to 6,920.86 points. The Taiwan Weighted Index advanced 131.61 points, or 0.29 per cent, to 46,153.09 points, while the Straits Times Index edged up 0.03 per cent to 5,721.89 points.
