KKannur, 14 August (H.S.):A 25-year-old nurse employed at a private hospital was found dead in her hostel room at Thalassery in Kannur district on Thursday night, police said.

The deceased was identified as Aleena Sabu, a native of Ashtamudi in Kollam district. She had been staying at a women's hostel at Temple Gate in Thalassery for the past five years.

The incident came to light around 8.30 p.m. after Aleena's friends became concerned when she failed to respond from inside her room. They reportedly called her several times and knocked on the door, but received no response.

The door was subsequently forced open, and Aleena was found hanging inside the room. The hostel authorities and the police were immediately informed about the incident.

Police recovered a note from the room in which Aleena reportedly stated that nobody was responsible for her death. Investigators are examining the note and the circumstances surrounding the incident as part of the inquiry.

Aleena had returned to Thalassery from her native place on Wednesday evening. She had completed a four-year nursing course in Thalassery and had been working as a nurse at a private hospital for the past year.

Her body was shifted to the mortuary at the Thalassery General Hospital. A post-mortem examination will be conducted before the body is released to her family.

The Thalassery police have registered a case and begun an investigation. Statements are expected to be collected from her friends, hostel residents, colleagues and family members to determine whether she had faced any personal or work-related difficulties before her death.

The circumstances leading up to the death have not yet been established, and police have not disclosed whether any specific issue prompted the incident.

Police said further details would be available only after the completion of the preliminary investigation and post-mortem examination.
