Kolkata, 13 August (H.S.): West Bengal Labour and Transport Minister Arjun Singh on Thursday felicitated two young throwball players from the state for their outstanding contribution to India's gold medal-winning performance at the 2nd South Asian Throwball Championship 2026.

The two athletes, Aagneyee Biswas from New Town in North 24 Parganas and Pamela Kundu from Behala-Barisha in South Kolkata, represented Team India at the championship held at the Ranchi Khelgaon Indoor Stadium on June 17 and 18, 2026.

Team India emerged champions and clinched the gold medal at the South Asian championship, with the two players from West Bengal making a significant contribution to the team's historic triumph.

Aagneyee Biswas, aged just 14 years and six months, was the youngest member of the Indian squad. Her selection and performance at the international championship marked a significant achievement for the young athlete and highlighted the growing presence of talented players from West Bengal on the national and international sporting stage.

During the felicitation programme, Minister Arjun Singh congratulated both athletes for their achievement and praised their dedication, discipline and sporting spirit. He said their performance had brought pride and honour to West Bengal by contributing to India's success at the international championship.

The Department of Labour and Transport, Government of West Bengal, extended its congratulations and best wishes to both players for continued success in their sporting careers.

The achievement of Aagneyee and Pamela is being seen as an encouraging development for throwball in the state, with their success providing further recognition to young sporting talent emerging from West Bengal.
