Kolkata, 13 August (H.S.): West Bengal Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose visited Muruliganj High School in Phansidewa, Siliguri subdivision, on Thursday and interacted with students during a series of social welfare initiatives organised by the school ahead of Independence Day.

The school organised a voluntary blood donation camp and a free health check-up camp as part of its Independence Day observances. Bose attended the programme as the chief guest and was accorded a traditional welcome with the beats of dhamsa and madal drums upon his arrival.

The Speaker praised the school's academic performance and its involvement in social initiatives. He also inaugurated newly constructed classrooms and interacted with blood donors, encouraging them for their contribution to the community.

Bose said that despite being a government school, Muruliganj High School had achieved a standard of performance that could rival many private institutions. Impressed by the school's achievements and reputation, he expressed his desire to take the school's teachers and around 50 students to the West Bengal Assembly so that their work and accomplishments could be showcased at the state level.

Emphasising the importance of education, Bose said students are the future of the country and teachers have a crucial responsibility in providing them with opportunities and preparing them to become responsible citizens.

He said he tries to visit schools whenever he travels to different districts and added that his visit to Muruliganj High School had provided him with valuable insights.

The Speaker also stressed the role of educational institutions in building a developed West Bengal. Describing the Legislative Assembly as a “temple of democracy,” he said more people should understand how the Assembly functions.

Bose said greater public participation in the democratic process would strengthen democracy and encourage citizens to understand the functioning of democratic institutions.

During the programme, the Speaker interacted with students, listened to them and posed for photographs and selfies with them. His interaction with the students and appreciation of their school's achievements generated considerable enthusiasm among the students and teachers.
