Kathmandu, 13 August (H.S.):

The flow of Nepal’s Bhotekoshi River has been disrupted following a massive landslide near the Jhimpu Post in Nyalam, on the Chinese side of the border, on Thursday. The landslide has reportedly blocked nearly half of the river’s course.

According to the Sindhupalchok District Police Office, a large landslide carrying rocks, soil and debris occurred in the Chinese territory opposite Liping in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality. The incident has obstructed the flow of the Bhotekoshi River, which originates in China and flows towards Nepal.

Police have warned that the disruption to the river’s flow could trigger a sudden flood or other disaster at any time. In view of the potential danger, residents living along the riverbanks in Bhotekoshi, Bahrabise and Balefi rural municipality areas have been urged to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have advised residents in vulnerable areas to exercise caution in view of the possible risk of a sudden rise in water levels.
