Kolkata, 13 August (H.S.) : The husband of the 30-year-old nurse who died under mysterious circumstances at Kolkata’s NRS Medical College and Hospital is awaiting the post-mortem report before deciding whether to lodge a police complaint.

The nurse, Rupali, had spoken to her husband Rahul over the phone shortly before the incident. According to Rahul, the conversation was brief as Rupali was travelling on the Metro at the time. She told him that it was raining and said they would speak later before ending the call.

Rahul said he is still unclear about what happened after his wife reached the hospital and how she died. No complaint has yet been lodged with the police by the family.

Rahul, who works for a private company and works from home, had initially requested that Rupali’s body not undergo a post-mortem at NRS Medical College and Hospital. “We did not want a post-mortem to be conducted at a place where such an incident had occurred,” he said.

The post-mortem was subsequently arranged at Kolkata Medical College. The report is yet to be received. Rahul said he would decide whether to approach the police after studying the findings, as he wants to first understand the possible cause of his wife’s death.

According to sources, Rahul and Rupali had legally married around three years ago. They also held a social wedding ceremony in March 2026. Rahul has been left devastated by his wife’s sudden death.

Police are currently awaiting the post-mortem report and are examining all possible aspects of the case. No suicide note has been recovered so far. Police have therefore refrained from commenting on whether Rupali died by suicide.

Hospital sources said Rupali had entered a washroom carrying three vials of fentanyl. Fentanyl is a potent opioid painkiller used in specific medical situations for pain management and anaesthesia. Doctors have initially suspected that an overdose or excessive administration of the drug may have caused her death.

However, police have said that the exact cause of death cannot be established until the post-mortem report is available.
