Chennai, 13 August (H.S.):The Greater Chennai Traffic Police have announced extensive traffic restrictions and diversions around Fort St George on August 15 in connection with the Independence Day celebrations.

General traffic will not be allowed on Kamarajar Salai between the Labour Statue and the War Memorial. Rajaji Salai will also remain closed to ordinary vehicles between the War Memorial and the northern end of the Reserve Bank subway. Only vehicles displaying valid passes will be permitted on these stretches.

Motorists travelling from Kamarajar Salai towards Parrys must turn at the Labour Statue and proceed through Walajah Road, Anna Salai, Muthusamy Bridge, Muthusamy Road, Raja Annamalai Mandram Junction and North Fort Side Road.

Vehicles travelling from Parrys towards Kamarajar Salai through Rajaji Salai and the Secretariat will be diverted through Parrys Corner, North Fort Side Road, Raja Annamalai Mandram Junction, Muthusamy Road, Muthusamy Bridge, Anna Salai and Walajah Road.

Those heading from Anna Salai towards Parrys through Kodimara Salai must use Muthusamy Bridge, Muthusamy Road, Raja Annamalai Mandram Junction and North Fort Side Road. Vehicles travelling from Muthusamy Bridge towards Kamarajar Salai must proceed through Anna Salai and Walajah Road.

Separate arrangements have been made for invited guests. Vehicles carrying red and purple passes may travel through Rajaji Salai until 8.30 a.m., drop passengers near the Secretariat entrance and park in designated areas within the Fort complex.

After 8.30 a.m., these vehicles must take a longer route through the War Memorial, Kodimara Salai, Muthusamy Bridge, North Fort Side Road, Parrys Junction and the Reserve Bank subway. They must park at the Public Works Department facility opposite the Secretariat.

Blue and pink pass holders must follow their designated routes and use the same parking facility. Vehicles without passes must stop near the War Memorial, drop passengers and park at Island Grounds.

Police urged motorists to plan journeys in advance and cooperate with personnel deployed along the diverted routes.
