New Delhi, 13 August (H.S.): Global markets are sending mixed signals on Thursday, with US equities closing higher in the previous session, while Dow Jones futures were trading marginally lower. European markets remained under pressure during the previous session, whereas Asian markets were witnessing mixed trading.

US markets ended higher in the previous session, supported by gains in chip stocks. The S&P 500 advanced 0.26 per cent to close at 7,748.50, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 143.04 points, or 0.54 per cent, to finish at 26,588.49. Meanwhile, Dow Jones futures were trading marginally lower by 0.03 per cent at 53,752.99.

European equities remained under pressure during the previous session. The FTSE index declined 0.10 per cent to close at 10,833.15, while the CAC index fell 0.46 per cent to end at 8,674.94. The DAX also slipped 0.23 per cent, closing at 26,331.07.

Asian markets were trading on a mixed note on Thursday. Of the nine major Asian indices tracked, six were trading in positive territory, while three remained in the red.

Gift Nifty was down 0.26 per cent at 24,408.50, while Singapore’s Straits Times Index declined 0.45 per cent to 5,694.77. Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite Index witnessed a sharper decline of 1.02 per cent, falling to 6,308.59.

On the positive side, Thailand’s SET Composite Index was trading 0.61 per cent higher at 1,622.46. The Shanghai Composite gained 0.42 per cent to reach 3,963.15.

South Korea’s KOSPI recorded a strong rally, rising 290.50 points, or 4.42 per cent, to 6,869.54. Japan’s Nikkei 225 also posted significant gains, climbing 1,172.94 points, or 1.74 per cent, to 68,697.

Taiwan’s Weighted Index advanced 460.05 points, or 1.01 per cent, to 45,978.12. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index edged up 0.07 per cent to trade at 25,457.

The mixed trend across global markets comes as investors continue to assess movements in technology stocks, regional economic developments and broader international market cues.
