New Delhi, 13 August (H.S.): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday inaugurated newly constructed two-lane slip road bridges over the Ghazipur Drain and Hindon Canal in Kondli, East Delhi. Union Minister of State and East Delhi MP Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Public Works Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, Patparganj MLA Ravindra Singh Negi and Trilokpuri MLA Ravikant were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra said that development projects pending for years had received fresh momentum and that Delhi was moving rapidly towards a new phase of development. He said the Chief Minister inaugurated two newly constructed slip road bridges over the major drain in the Kondli area of East Delhi.

The new bridges are expected to provide thousands of residents of the Trilokpuri, Kondli and Patparganj assembly constituencies with improved road connectivity, smoother commuting and a more convenient traffic system. The project will strengthen connectivity in the area and play an important role in easing the daily movement of commuters.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Delhi government was focused on developing infrastructure that would provide direct and wide-ranging benefits to citizens. Strengthening the road network, reducing traffic congestion and ensuring smoother movement between different parts of Delhi are among the government's priorities.

She said the Kondli project was another significant step towards building a better-connected, more accessible and developed Delhi. Work is being undertaken continuously to improve road infrastructure across the capital while ensuring safe and smooth traffic movement.

The Chief Minister said the slip road project inaugurated on Thursday had been approved long ago, but the necessary procedures required to take the work forward had not been completed. After the new government assumed office in Delhi, the required no-objection certificates and approvals were secured, funds were reallocated and the project was finally completed and dedicated to the public.

Gupta also highlighted the long-standing need to modernise Delhi's drainage system. Despite the city's growing population and changing requirements, inadequate attention had been paid to upgrading, desilting and maintaining old drains and drainage networks. This had repeatedly resulted in waterlogging and inconvenience to residents during the monsoon.

She said the present government was working to strengthen the drainage system and find a lasting solution to the problem of waterlogging in the city.

Public Works Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said the inauguration of the newly constructed two-lane slip road bridges over the Ghazipur Drain and Hindon Canal in Kondli was an important step towards improving connectivity and easing traffic in the area. The project will provide residents of Kondli, Kalyanpuri, Ghazipur and adjoining areas with a better commuting option while helping reduce traffic pressure and congestion on the existing Kondli Bridge.

Under the project, two two-lane slip road bridges have been constructed over the Ghazipur Drain and Hindon Canal at Kondli Bridge. Earlier, traffic travelling to and from Kalyanpuri, Ghazipur and Noida would converge at the same point, frequently causing congestion during peak hours. The new slip roads are expected to reduce traffic pressure and conflicts at the main intersection and ensure smoother vehicular movement.

The new route will improve connectivity between Chand Cinema Road, Ghazipur Road and Kondli Bridge. It is expected to benefit millions of residents of Kondli, Kalyanpuri, Ghazipur and the Ghazipur Dairy Farm Road area by providing better road connectivity, an alternative route and reduced travel time.

The bridges have been built on robust foundations using 1,200-mm-diameter reinforced concrete cement (RCC) cast-in-situ piles. Safe pedestrian footpaths have also been constructed alongside steel plate girders over the drains, making pedestrian movement easier and safer.
