Guwahati, 13 August (HS): The Assam and Arunachal Pradesh governments are continuing discussions on two separate aspects of the ongoing border tension, including the longstanding boundary issue and Monday’s firing incident, Assam ministers Atul Bora and Ranoj Pegu said on Thursday.

The ministers said the two issues are being monitored separately. According to the government, four people from Arunachal Pradesh were directly involved in Monday’s firing incident, in which 18 Assamese people were injured. Assam Police has already registered a case on its own in connection with the incident.

The ministers held a meeting with the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) at the Circuit House in Dhemaji. The discussions with the organisation have been completed, and the government expressed hope that the economic blockade against Arunachal Pradesh would be withdrawn soon.

However, TMPK has set a 48-hour deadline for the arrest of the four accused allegedly involved in the firing. The organisation said its protest against Arunachal Pradesh would continue until all four accused are arrested.

TMPK has maintained that the blockade would not be withdrawn until action is taken against those responsible for Monday’s incident.----------
