Amritsar, 13 August (H.S.): Amritsar Commissionerate

Police has busted two major cross-border smuggling networks involved in illegal

arms and drug trafficking, arresting five accused. During the operation, police

recovered seven illegal pistols and 2.030 kg of heroin from their possession.

Preliminary

investigation has revealed that the accused arrested in the arms case were

allegedly in contact with smugglers based abroad. They were reportedly

receiving illegal weapons from overseas and planning to supply them in parts of

Amritsar and Tarn Taran.

Police are now

investigating the accused persons’ links with foreign-based smugglers and

trying to trace the entire arms supply network.

Two separate

FIRs have been registered at Islamabad Police Station and Sultanwind Police

Station in Amritsar. Investigators are working to identify other individuals

connected with the networks and determine how consignments of drugs and weapons

were being transported into Punjab.

Police are also

examining the roles of other suspected members and tracing the complete supply

chain.

Investigation

agencies are examining both the forward and backward linkages of the arrested

accused. Efforts are also underway to identify alleged handlers operating from across

the border and their local contacts in Punjab.

Police

officials said further investigation may lead to the arrest of more accused and

reveal additional details about the arms and drug supply chain linked to the

networks.
