Kottayam, 12 August (H.S.):NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair has hit back at former minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar over a series of allegations against the organisation and its leadership, challenging him to approach the courts if he believes the Nair Service Society lacks internal democracy.
Responding to Ganesh Kumar’s criticism, Sukumaran Nair said he did not intend to engage in a prolonged exchange with the former minister. He alleged that Ganesh Kumar had even made personal remarks about his own father and said such criticism did not warrant a detailed response.
Sukumaran Nair accused Ganesh Kumar of aligning himself with a group that, according to him, was seeking to weaken the NSS. He said attempts to bring various groups together and engineer a campaign against him would not succeed, maintaining that he had committed no wrongdoing that would force him to yield to such pressure.
The NSS general secretary also rejected allegations that people had been denied entry to the Mannam Samadhi. He said no person had been prevented from entering the memorial, but maintained that dogs could not be allowed inside a place that the community regarded with the sanctity of a temple.
Addressing accusations that members of his family had been given jobs in NSS institutions, Sukumaran Nair said appointments had been made strictly in accordance with established practices. Describing the whole of Kerala as his family, he denied providing employment to anyone through improper means and said those raising allegations were free to investigate the matter.
He also defended the NSS leadership’s authority to take disciplinary action against its affiliated unions. Sukumaran Nair said unions would be dissolved whenever circumstances warranted such action, even if a decision had to be taken late at night.
Concluding his response, the NSS leader questioned the consistency between Ganesh Kumar’s public statements and his actions, indicating that the organisation was unlikely to soften its stand in the face of the former minister’s criticism.
