Kolkata, 11 August (H.S.) : Former India cricket captain and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and his wife, dancer Dona Ganguly, have allegedly received death threats through letters, prompting a written complaint to be lodged at the Thakurpukur Police Station in Kolkata.

The threat letters have reportedly raised concerns over the safety of the Ganguly family and their personal staff. Sourav Ganguly’s team approached the police on Monday, seeking immediate intervention and a thorough investigation into the matter.

According to the complaint, Sourav Ganguly’s personal secretary, Tania Bhattacharya, lodged the written complaint at Thakurpukur Police Station on Monday. She reportedly informed the police that a series of objectionable letters had been arriving from unidentified individuals over the past few months.

The matter took a serious turn on Monday when two letters were received, one addressed to Sourav Ganguly and the other to Dona Ganguly. The complaint stated that the sender had allegedly made objectionable remarks about Sourav Ganguly and issued direct threats to him, his family members and people working with him.

The complaint described the threats as a serious security concern and sought prompt police action to identify the sender and investigate the matter.

Following the complaint, the Thakurpukur Police have initiated an investigation. Police are reportedly examining the letters and working to identify their sender. Handwriting analysis is also expected to form part of the investigation.

This is not the first time the Ganguly family has approached the Thakurpukur Police over objectionable material concerning Sourav Ganguly. The family had previously reported allegedly defamatory and controversial social media posts targeting the former India captain.

However, the alleged death threats sent through letters have prompted the authorities to take the matter more seriously, with security measures reportedly being tightened around Ganguly’s residence on Biren Roy Road in Behala.
