Jammu, 10 August (H.S.): Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness widespread rainfall and thundershowers over the next few days, with heavy to very heavy rain forecast in some districts of the Jammu division and intense showers in parts of Kashmir, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said.

According to the latest weather forecast, few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at most places across Jammu and Kashmir from August 9 to 11, with the peak activity likely on August 11.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at a few places in the Jammu division, while brief spells of intense heavy showers are expected at a few districts of the Kashmir division, the weather office said.

The Meteorological Centre has also warned of the possibility of heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers in a few districts during the period, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at one or two places on the night of August 11.

It said torrential rain and brief intense heavy showers may trigger flash floods and landslides at vulnerable locations besides causing waterlogging in low-lying areas.

From August 12 to 16, light rain and thundershowers are likely at many places, with brief intense showers possible at a few locations, the forecast said.

Fresh spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places from August 17 to 19, accompanied by brief intense heavy showers at a few places.

Authorities have been advised to remain alert in view of the possibility of flash floods, landslides and waterlogging during periods of intense rainfall.
