
Chirang (Assam), 10 August (HS): Two portal journalists have been arrested in Assam’s Chirang district for allegedly disseminating fake and misleading news, police sources said.
The arrested journalists have been identified as Azad Ali Ahmed and Habijul Rahman, also known as Habib Khan. They were arrested from Kajalgaon following a police operation launched on Monday morning.
According to reports, the duo had aired a report on Sunday through the ‘Bodoland Times’ portal channel that mentioned Assam Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika. Following the broadcast, Hazarika alleged on Facebook that false and misleading news had been circulated against him and said legal action would be taken against the portal.
Police subsequently initiated an investigation and arrested the two journalists later in the afternoon. They were taken to Kajalgaon Police Station for questioning. Local reports said they may be shifted to Morigaon Police Station for further interrogation.
