Kolkata, 10 August (H.S.): A political controversy erupted in south Kolkata on Monday after a group of workers claiming to be supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) locked the party office used by Jadavpur MP Sayani Ghosh in the Garfa area.

The protesters, who identified themselves as supporters of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and “genuine TMC workers”, questioned why Ghosh was using a TMC office for public outreach after allegedly becoming associated with the NCPI.

The office, located in Ward 106 of Garfa, had been used by Ghosh after her victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. She had reportedly held meetings with TMC leaders there and used the premises to coordinate political and campaign-related activities. A nameplate bearing her name was also displayed outside the office.

On Monday, several young men and women arrived at the office carrying banners targeting Ghosh. Some banners reportedly read “Go Back Sayani”, while others carried messages such as “No Place for Traitors.”

The protesters questioned Ghosh’s continued use of the TMC office, alleging that she had become a “rebel” MP associated with the NCPI and was also attending NDA meetings.

A person described as Ghosh’s secretary was reportedly present at the office when the protesters arrived. The TMC workers allegedly asked him to leave the premises before locking the office.

The protesters said that using a TMC party office while conducting political activities on behalf of another political organisation was unacceptable and claimed that the action was taken for that reason.

Ghosh’s reaction to the incident was not immediately available.
