Bhubaneswar, 10 August (H.S.): In response to rising water levels after heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas, authorities at the Rengali Dam in Odisha’s Angul district have initiated controlled discharge of water into the Brahmani river basin.

Officials informed that one sluice gate (Gate No. 8) has been opened, and the power channel has also been activated to regulate the increasing reservoir level. The dam is currently receiving an inflow of approximately 2,500 cubic metres per second, while about 2,000 cubic metres per second is being released to maintain structural safety.

This marks the second discharge operation this year, undertaken as a precautionary measure to manage excess inflow. The reservoir water level has reached 122.14 metres, approaching its full reservoir capacity of 123.50 metres.

Engineering teams are maintaining round-the-clock surveillance of the situation. Officials stated that further decisions regarding additional water release will be taken based on rainfall intensity in the catchment areas and subsequent inflow patterns.
