
Chandigarh, 10 August (H.S.): Counter Intelligence Jalandhar, in a joint operation with SBS Nagar Police, has busted an ISI-sponsored Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module being operated by foreign-based handlers with the arrest of a key operative and recovered an 86-P hand grenade from his possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday. The arrested accused has been identified as Lakhwinder Singh alias Jola, a resident of village Bairsian in SBS Nagar.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused had allegedly procured a consignment containing a hand grenade from a Dead Letter Box (DLB) near Adampur in Jalandhar, on the directions of foreign-based handlers.
Sharing operational details, he said that acting swiftly on reliable inputs, police teams arrested suspect Lakhwinder alias Jola from the area of district SBS Nagar. On the disclosure statement of the accused, 86-P Hand Grenade was recovered from the village of Bairsian in SBS Nagar, he said.
The DGP said that the timely action by Punjab Police has successfully thwarted the planned attack. Further investigation is underway to expose the complete terror network, including foreign handlers, local support networks and forward and backward linkages, he added. In this regard, a case has been registered at Police Station Sadar Nawanshahr.
