(H.S.): Rajendra Prasad, 62, died Monday after reportedly hanging himself in
the bathroom of the Gurusarai police station in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. Rajendra
Prasad, a Sindhar village inhabitant, was brought into lock up on Sunday. He
was detained for interrogation after being suspected of abusing a nine-year-old
child.
Dr. Arvind Kumar, Jhansi's Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), has
stated that case sections under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses
(POCSO) Act have been filed against him. Police spotted him in the toilet and
transported him to a local primary health care facility for first help. He was
then transported to a regional medical college for further care, where he died
during therapy. The body has been transported for a proper post-mortem
examination, and a thorough magisterial investigation into the custody death is
presently ongoing.
