Guwahati, 10 August (HS): A political shift appears to be taking shape in Assam, with the Congress and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) seemingly moving towards renewed cooperation ahead of the Nagaon by-election.

Congress leader Ripun Bora had yesterday expressed his desire for an alliance with AIUDF. Today, senior Congress leader Wajed Ali Choudhury also backed the proposal, saying that anyone who does not want the BJP to win should support the Congress candidate. He also pointed out that Nagaon MP seat has earlier been a Congress seat.

Meanwhile, AIUDF leader Rezaul Karim Sarkar has also supported the demand for an alliance, signalling a possible rapprochement between the two parties ahead of the by-election.

The developments suggest that the Congress is seeking AIUDF's support to strengthen its position in the Nagaon constituency and prevent a division of anti-BJP votes.----------
