New Delhi, 10 August (H.S.): The Centre is willing to discuss in Parliament the Delhi Police's action during recent student protests in the national capital, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Monday.

Rijiju's statement came after Opposition parties insisted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah should come before Parliament and explain the police response to the protesting students. The issue has emerged as a major point of contention between the government and the Opposition during the ongoing Monsoon Session.

The Opposition has been demanding a discussion on the treatment of students who took part in protests over issues linked to examinations and recruitment. Opposition members have also sought clarification from the government over allegations of excessive police action during the demonstrations.

Responding to the Opposition's demand, Rijiju said the government was prepared to take up the matter for discussion, signalling a possible attempt to ease the continuing standoff in Parliament.

The government has maintained that the allegations surrounding the police response should be examined through facts and has denied claims of excessive force. It has also maintained that parliamentary proceedings should be allowed to continue without repeated disruptions.

The issue is likely to remain a key subject of debate in the coming proceedings, with the Opposition seeking accountability from the government and the Centre indicating its willingness to address the matter on the floor of the House.

Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned until 2 pm on Monday amid Opposition protests over various issues.
