Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday distributed bicycles to Class 9 girl students under the Vidya Vahini Yojana at the Delhi Legislative Assembly premises.

As part of the initiative, 200 girl students from Zone 7 of North Delhi were provided with bicycles. The programme is aimed at making daily travel to and from school easier for girls while supporting continuity in education, building confidence and promoting self-reliance.

The students who received the bicycles said the facility would make their commute more convenient, save travel time and enable them to continue their studies with greater confidence.

Interacting with the students, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta congratulated them on receiving the bicycles. She said a bicycle is not merely a means of transportation but also a tool that can help girls pursue their education and realise their aspirations.

Gupta said the government was committed to ensuring that distance or lack of convenient transport does not become an obstacle to a girl’s education. Through the Vidya Vahini Yojana, the Delhi government is working to make education more accessible and convenient for girls.

She said around 1.40 lakh Class 9 girl students across Delhi are being provided bicycles under the scheme this year. According to the Chief Minister, investment in girls’ education is an investment in a brighter future for society. She added that the government is continuously working to ensure that girls in Delhi have equal access to education, modern facilities and opportunities for growth.

Encouraging the students to make the best use of the facility, Gupta urged them to strengthen their academic pursuits, set clear goals and move forward with confidence. She said the Delhi government aims to provide students with quality education along with a comprehensive and enabling environment so that every child can pursue their dreams without unnecessary obstacles.

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood said that under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership, Delhi’s school education system was moving towards a significant transformation.

He said the distribution of bicycles to talented girl students was not merely about providing a means of transportation, but also about empowering them to become self-reliant, overcome challenges and pursue their aspirations.

Sood expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for her continued support and commitment to empowering women and girls.
