New Delhi, 10 August (H.S.): The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra, organised a Tiranga Yatra from Chandni Town Hall to Hauz Qazi in Old Delhi on Monday as part of the Independence Day celebrations. A large number of school students also participated in the march.

Thousands of BJP workers joined the Tiranga Yatra along with Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal. Several local traders' and residents' organisations set up platforms at various points along the route to welcome Harsh Malhotra, Praveen Khandelwal and other participants in the procession.

Addressing the participants as well as residents and traders who had gathered along the route, Malhotra and Khandelwal extended their greetings on the occasion of Independence Day.

Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra said it was a matter of pride that the party's Tiranga Yatra had begun from Old Delhi. Referring to the Red Fort, he said the historic monument was not merely a structure made of bricks and stones, but a symbol from where the Prime Minister addresses the nation every August 15.

Malhotra said Old Delhi carried a rich legacy of sacrifice and self-respect. He also highlighted the area's tradition of Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb, saying that the ringing of temple bells and the call to prayer from mosques could be heard together in the neighbourhood.

He said people from different communities, including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians, come together in Chandni Chowk to celebrate festivals and share sweets. According to Malhotra, this spirit of unity represents the true essence of the national tricolour.

He appealed to people to carry this shared heritage forward with a commitment to the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign.

Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal congratulated the citizens and party workers who participated in the Tiranga Yatra. He said the national flag is a symbol of the country's pride, honour and dignity, while Independence Day serves as a reminder of the martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.

The Tiranga Yatra was organised under the coordination of Chandni Chowk district BJP president Arvind Garg. Delhi BJP vice-president Rajesh Bhatia, media chief Praveen Shankar Kapoor, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha Delhi president Rajat Chaudhary, former mayor Jaiprakash, municipal councillors Suman Kumar Gupta, Usha Sharma, Vikas Tank and Sushil Jaunty, assistant office secretary Amit Gupta, district office-bearers Raja Khari, Ashok Sharma, Raj Deepti Indora, Ashok Tomar, Rohit Sharma, Charu Soni, Naveen Gupta, Rekha Sharma and Asha Verma, among others, participated in the procession.
