Bhubaneswar, 01 August (H.S.): Odisha Vigilance on Saturday arrested Debadyuti Nanda, a former Junior Assistant in the office of the Block Education Officer (BEO), Baliapal in Balasore district, in connection with the alleged misappropriation of government funds amounting to ₹37.32 lakh.

According to Vigilance officials, Nanda, currently serving as a Junior Assistant at Padmalochan Government High School, Jagai under Baliapal block, is accused of embezzling ₹37,32,708 between 2022 and 2026. He allegedly prepared forged arrear pay bills in his own name and fraudulently inserted them into arrear Dearness Allowance (DA) bills of other employees while working as bill clerk-cum-accountant in the BEO office.

Taking advantage of his official position, the accused is said to have manipulated financial records to siphon off government funds over a period of time.

A case has been registered at Balasore Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 13/2026) under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, along with Sections 467, 468, 471, and 477-A of the Indian Penal Code.
