India delivered an impressive performance on the ninth day of the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Friday, winning a total of six medals—two gold, two silver and two bronze. With this achievement, India's overall medal tally rose to 23, lifting the country to 10th place in the medal standings.
The day began on a historic note in judo, where Asmita Dey clinched the gold medal in the women's 48kg category, securing India's first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medal in the sport. Shortly afterwards, Harsh Singh added another historic gold by winning the men's 60kg category, further strengthening India's remarkable campaign in judo. Yamini also contributed to the medal tally by claiming the silver medal in her final bout.
In athletics, Tejaswin Shankar created history by winning the bronze medal in the men's decathlon, becoming the first Indian athlete to secure a Commonwealth Games medal in the event.
India also enjoyed an outstanding outing in the men's javelin throw, securing a double podium finish. Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal, while Yashveer Singh claimed the bronze with a personal best performance.
At the end of Day Nine, Australia continued to lead the medal table with 128 medals, comprising 55 gold, 30 silver and 43 bronze.
England occupied second place with 80 medals, including 17 gold, 34 silver and 29 bronze, while Canada remained third with 53 medals, consisting of 17 gold, 15 silver and 21 bronze.
India now has a total of 23 medals—five gold, 12 silver and six bronze—and has climbed to 10th place in the overall medal standings.
