Taipei, 01 August (H.S.): India's rising badminton star Tanvi Sharma delivered an impressive performance to secure a place in the women's singles final of the Taipei Open 2026.

In the semifinal played on Saturday, Tanvi defeated fifth-seeded Chinese Taipei shuttler Huang Yu-Hsun in straight games, winning 21-17, 21-11 to book her spot in the title clash.

The world No. 34 wrapped up the match in just 33 minutes. Compared to her quarterfinal performance, Tanvi displayed a much more commanding game and gave the home player no opportunity to stage a comeback. She will face Vietnam's Nguyen Thuy Linh in the final on Sunday.

Over the past two years, Tanvi has rapidly established herself on the international badminton circuit. She was part of the Indian team that won the Badminton Asia Team Championships in 2024. She has also won the titles at the 2024 Bonn International and the 2025 Denmark Challenge, while finishing runner-up at the 2025 Odisha Masters Super 100 and Guwahati Masters Super 100 tournaments.

The Taipei Open final will mark the fourth BWF World Tour final and the second Super 300 final of Tanvi's career.

Meanwhile, India's challenge in the men's singles event came to an end after Kiran George, the country's last remaining hope, was defeated by Japan's fourth-seeded Yudai Okimoto 21-12, 21-10 in the quarterfinals.

Earlier, the men's doubles pair of Bhargav Ram Arigela and Vishal Tej Gobburu was eliminated in the first round, while H.S. Prannoy exited the tournament after suffering a defeat in the pre-quarterfinal stage.
