India's premier multi-event athlete Tejaswin Shankar scripted history at the 2026 Commonwealth Games by winning the bronze medal in the men's decathlon, becoming the first Indian athlete to secure a Commonwealth Games medal in the event.

A Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) Development athlete, Tejaswin completed the decisive 1,500m race in 4 minutes and 36.19 seconds to earn 704 points. He finished the decathlon with an overall tally of 7,976 points, securing the bronze medal.

With this achievement, Tejaswin Shankar also became the first Indian athlete in Commonwealth Games history to win medals in two different athletics disciplines.

Earlier, he had claimed a bronze medal in the men's high jump at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Tejaswin's latest accomplishment is being hailed as a landmark moment for Indian athletics. By earning a medal in the decathlon—one of the most demanding events in track and field, comprising 10 disciplines—he has elevated India's standing in multi-event athletics. The achievement reflects his exceptional versatility, unwavering dedication, sustained hard work, and outstanding physical fitness.
